Ground LTL (Less Than Truckload) shipping, by definition, involves movement of freight that occupies only a portion of an entire trailer. FLS specializes in this service. We offer traditional, partial, volume, expedited, and climate-controlled LTL pickup and delivery services for all our clients’ needs.
Pickup & Delivery
Power lift gates with sixty (60) by eighty (80) inch, three thousand pound capacity, coupled with two-driver teams, make same-day and next-day pickup and delivery services a specialty. FLS offers our customers first haul, final haul, and anything in between on regularly scheduled runs or in emergency situations.
While “hot shots” originated in Texas oilfields, quickly delivering parts to off-road pumping and drilling operations, the term has since broadened in scope. Now it commonly refers to the freight, the truck, or both. FLS most often uses the term to describe our secure transportation of expedited freight for a single customer, using a company-owned vehicles.
Air Freight Transportation
First haul (from the airport) or final haul (to the airport): our unique partnerships with major air carriers ensure smooth pickup and delivery for air freight, minimizing security delays and ensuring timely shipments for our customers. FLS provides both regular runs and as-needed air freight transportation.
Traditional manufacturing focuses on delivery of goods to distributors, retailers, and consumers. While essential in the global economy, this disregards internal supply chain needs. Partnership with a trusted 3PL provider like FLS dramatically improves efficiency and reduces cost through better supply chain management.
Just In Time Delivery
Manufacturers embracing lean manufacturing principles and distributors lowering costs through reduced inventory have a common need. Supplies must be delivered on time where needed, when needed, without exception. JIT (Just In Time) delivery from FLS forms an integral part of the modern supply chain, from start to finish.
Company-owned, company-operated warehouses provide secure storage for our clients. Video surveillance, employee background checks, and procedures certified to TSA security and safety standards provide assurance that the FLS secure storage facilities meet or exceed our partners’ security standards.
B2B Courier Services
For critical packages, delivery time must be measured in hours: traditional next-day or even same-day service won’t suffice. FLS offers courier services to meet the need for swift turnaround, coupled with the added security provided by company-owned vehicles and fully vetted company drivers.
In the LTL freight industry, cross-docking involves moving cargo from one transport vehicle directly onto another, with minimal or no warehousing. FLS employs traditional “hub and spoke” techniques with short warehousing time in addition to “on the road” cross-docking between transport vehicles.

Sheron Row founded Freight Land Sky, Inc. as a woman-owned business in 1986, with a single diesel Isuzu pickup. A single full-time driver ran hot shots, picking up and delivering time-sensitive, emergency loads. Sheron kept her full-time job, using evenings and weekends to plan and coordinate logistics, handle bookkeeping, and run small B2B courier freight in her Volvo.
Three weeks later, Sheron hired a second driver. Within a year, FLS had eight full-time employees, required to handle steady business from a major technology company and worldwide freight forwarder, along with as-needed service for an increasing customer base throughout Pennsylvania.
By 1989, Freight Land Sky, Inc. owned eight Isuzu and three straight trucks, each blazoned with our eponymous FLS logo. We acquired private CB frequency licensing from the FCC. A network of radio repeaters allowed real-time communications from State College to Philadelphia, enhancing the agility and responsiveness of the hot shot and LTL company-owned fleet. In three years, the company grew from one truck to a dozen, linked via private radio frequency.
Risk and Reward
The secret of getting ahead is getting started. - Mark Twain
Freight Land Sky, Inc. stood poised to become a powerhouse in regional logistics.
Our small logistics company continued with growth and evolution through the nineties and into the new millennium. In 1992, Sheron purchased Building One at 1000 Sycamore Street, Harrisburg, PA. In 1993, she signed the lease on Building Two, and assumed ownership of that building in 1995. In 1997, Freight Land Sky, Inc. purchased a garage on Cameron Street in Harrisburg. Here, certified technicians ensure all company-owned vehicles undergo a rigorous, proactive preventative maintenance program, adding additional layers of performance and reliability to the entire company-owned fleet.
As of 2004, Freight Land Sky, Inc. also owned the parcel of land located at 1000 Hemlock Street, Harrisburg, allowing the corporate campus to span an entire city block. During that time, contracts established with major airlines improved air freight services dramatically, speeding security clearance and improving internal company security to match TSA standards.
With the benefits of an expanded headquarters and our new air freight agreements, FLS refocused on even greater quality of service.
Today, Freight Land Sky, Inc. numbers twenty (20) full-time employees, including fifteen (15) drivers and five (5) office staff. The company-owned fleet includes eleven (11) dry van straight trucks, a plow truck, one cargo van, and a refrigerated straight truck. We use cell phones now instead of CB radios, but remain just as committed to being more responsive, more agile, more reliable than our competition.
In our thirty-fourth year of operation, we remain the area's leading trusted logistics company for hot shot, ground LTL, air freight transportation, B2B courier services, manufacturing logistics, secure storage, cross-docking, and JIT (Just In Time) delivery services. We've handled Broadway sets, forklifts, sound and lighting equipment, Amish buggies, industrial machinery, museum pieces, and more.
When timely delivery, responsiveness, and security matter, Freight Land Sky, Inc. has been the go-to company for the Northeast Region for over three decades. We intend to continue that tradition well into the next three decades as our founder instills our core values of confidence, competence, and security into the next generation of the family business.
